FOG Sensor

Fiber Optic Glass sensors (FBG) are innovative devices that can be used to measure deformation, pressure, movements, temperatures, erosion, flood with great benefits if compared with traditional electric sensors:

perfect for artwork monitor as they are almost invisible (diameter 125 μm).

extraordinary resistance to corrosion in aggressive environment (extreme temperatures, chemicals, gas and vapors);

total safety in high voltage applications (electric lines, generators, etc) and absolute immunity to noise and interference even in the presence of strong electric or magnetic fields (radar, microwave sources, NMR - nuclear magnetic resonance)

total safety in OIL&GAS applications and Explosive environments (ATEX).

Distributed Fiber Optic Glass sensors are the new frontier of the monitoring technology: they combine all the benefits of the FBG sensors with the capability of realtime measuring along the fiber cable upto a distance of 100 km. Some extra benefits of the distributed FOG technology is described below:

  • low cost: the cable is simple and cheap FOG
  • distributed sensitivity: each centimeter of the FOG cable is equivalent to a single FBG sensor, allowing to identify easily and quickly any anomaly with extremely high accuracy and reliability
  • very long range: FOG is perfectly efficient for 100km, and is perfect for long electric lines, channels, pipes etc.
